Getting rid of Windows problems the easy way

As salamu alaikum,

here's the easiest way to get rid of ANY problem windows can throw at you:

step 1: download and burn the Ubuntu ISO from http://www.ubuntu.com/
step 2: reboot the PC with the newly burned Ubuntu CD in the drive
step 3: install Ubuntu and select the option to wipe out all contents in the Hard Drive

Yup....it's THAT simple. :)

As salam alaikum.

Ello. So quick question. Let's say someone's hard drive crashed but that person would like to try and retrieve as many files back as possible. Is there a way?

Walaikum as salam,

Yes, there is a way. What you'll need is either two Cd drives (one being a cd/DVD burner) or a flash drive.

first download a linux distribution like Ubuntu or Knoppix or whatever you like (I like ubuntu) and then burn it. restart your PC and you should be logged into Ubuntu. What's happening here is your PC is running everything off the Ubuntu/Knoppix/Linux liveCD. This means your hard drive isn't being used at all. anyway, once you are in the Desktop of the linux system, you should be able to see your windows hard drive. Open the hard drive like you would on windows (double click it, browse it, etc) and then either burn the files to a CD drive (see where the second drive I mentioend aboev comes in?) or if you have a flash drive, drag the files in there. Another way to back up files is to just connect to the internet and email them to yourself or put it on some remote storage like filefront.com .

hope to have answered your question.

Hi,

So i was trying to download the Ubuntu u recommended but I dont know which version to download:

1. Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Desktop Edition - Supported to 2011

2. Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server Edition - Supported to 2013

If you could let me know the specifics of what to download that would be great. Thank you.

You always want to use the Desktop edition. The server edition is for servers (self explanatory really).
